I'm so glad:
it's FRIDAY!

I've been thinking:
about changing my header. again. for someone that designs blog headers, it's hard for me not to want something new everyday. got any ideas, my friends? the best idea may get a little surprise from me and remember... it's got to be unruly!

the cutest Halloween cat. he's got a permanent costume.

what a perfect day to introduce the newest addition to the photographer spotlight, Mary Wells. if you've never seen Mary's work, you're in for a treat. no tricks here! Mary's photos are incredibly moving. the emotion in her pictures is fantastic. what first sparked your interest in photography:
I remember when I was little loving looking through my moms photo albums of her life in Colorado and wishing I could take pictures just like that- when I was 15 I started to volunteer at the community theater where I met a professor name Jerry who also did photography on the side and I really enjoyed talking to him in the evenings about his hobby. Talking to Jerry really helped push me in that direction.what was your first camera:
I remember when I was little getting a polaroid from my dad's friend (who we called uncle Moe) but I had to share it with my sisters. When I was a teenager my mom got me a cheap 35mm camera for my birthday and my first digital was the Nikon D100 that I got used from Jerry.favorite thing to photograph:
I really love my environments. I love the home my husband and I created with our pets :) and I really enjoy my time at the beach, I go about two days a week. I also love capturing moments with my family and friends along with still life.favorite artist/photographer:
This changes so often but lately I've been loving Pierre Crocquet and his book "Enter Exit"
Also, I grew up loving Shel Silverstein. I made it my mission to collect every book he did and his work still inspires me till this day.most memorable advice you've been given:
Don't be afraid to take the picture
advice you'd give starting or aspiring photographers:
Keep your camera close by, keep shooting, take shots of moments you never want to let go, and don't worry about it coming out perfect.favorite color:
I really love brown. I like it best with greens and blues (and pink)if you could eat only one thing:

everyday life, my husband and his many ways of fixing things or coming up with solutions. they always seem to be funny and really creative. My friends, children, music , the great outdoors and so many strangers.

a few weeks ago I while searching etsy, I stumbled upon the fantastic work of Abi Bansal Design. I absolutely adore her collection, especially the Mischa dress, though I'm eying the Penelope dress too as it would be perfect for holiday parties!

hi friends! thanks so much for the well wishes. I'm feeling lots better. it's great to know what good rest and lots of movie watching can do for you.
I was able to get out of the house for a bit this weekend, despite feeling sick. I bundled up in my hoodie and went to a little farm on Sauvie's Island in search of a pumpkin. instead, dlb and I picked out these tiny gourds! to put their size into perspective, that little yellow squash shaped one is just about 2 inches long. love.
I'm working on finishing up the calendars for tomorrow's shop update. I'm so happy with your enthusiasm about the calendar. I really love the way it turned out and couldn't be happier. the shop update is scheduled for tomorrow at 10am PST! hope to see you there!

I haven't been able to stay warm today. I've had a blanket wrapped around my shoulders all day combined with warm socks, corduroy pants, long sleeves, and boots. I'm still cold. therefore, I've spent a lot of time browsing dreamy sweaters and throws with hopes of snuggling up to a warm meal and cup of tea when I get home.

last winter I wasn't really prepared at all for Portland winter. I didn't know what to expect. coming from Florida where the heaviest piece of clothing I owned was a hooded sweatshirt from college which I still wore with flip flops, I had a lot to learn. of course I had warm clothes and a wool coat and socks but I really wasn't prepared.
so this year, I've been making a list of things that I'd hope would make the chill a little less chilly. first up, hats. I quite like these styles, but I'm especially hunting a pretty vintage cloche.

I had a nice weekend. the sun was spectacular. it's nice to open the windows and allow cool breezes to rush in. you wouldn't guess that it was so lovely out this weekend by looking outside today. it's a mess of cold rain. I guess that's Portland for ya!

well hello friends!! I've missed you this week. there has been so much I've wanted to share.

I've got some exciting news to share with you today. today marks my two year blogiversary with Unruly Things. two years ago today, I began this little blog - not knowing fully what I wanted it to be or where I expected it to go, but with an idea for sharing my thoughts, I was ready. I have come such a long day since then. especially if you count my cross country move last summer! but I'm so happy, so so SO happy to be blogging and to have you as my readers. I enjoy popping on everyday to share my recent finds, love for photography, and thoughts. I blog because I like it but mostly, I blog because I love sharing my world with you. it's a funny thing, the internet, and it amazes me everyday that I've met so many wonderful and kind people through this little blog of mine. so many of you can relate, blogging is like my second home. each of you have inspired me so much, and I thank you for continuing to read.
so I thought I'd share this memorable moment with an exciting update! my calendar, which I've been working on for a weeks now, is finally up in my shop! for those of you who follow my flickr, you may remember my series of collection walks. during these walks around the neighborhood or along the beach I'd pick up things as I went along. then I'd organize each collection on the path in a prominent space, and leave them for others to see their beauty. this inspired me so much, that I decided to translate each of my collections into my 2009 calendar.
and what's a celebration without a little gift!?

my Saturday was all about cameras, boots, sunshine, and making new friends. 14 amazing ladies got together for a photo shoot at a fantastic farm in Forrest Grove. Whitney's parents were kind enough to let us tromp around on their farm for 3 glorious hours of photographic fun. it was so fun to watch everyone's process, especially with Polaroid and peel apart film. I'd never seen one of those bad boys in action and it was really cool!
check out our flickr group for some of the amazing photos from the shoot. I've still got 3 rolls of film to be developed so I can imagine that there will be some more trickling in as the week goes on!
a huge thanks for everyone for coming out. I loved meeting each of you in person and I can't wait to shoot with each of you again.
