a band aid on my left thumb.

raspberry brownie from The Pearl Bakery.

I'm a little sad:
because my Dad leaves on Monday.

update: and I'm even more excited with my recent purchase for tickets to Rogue Wave. yay!

I am totally in love with the new, fully sustainable, clothing line from illustrator, Alyson Fox. her new line is creative, fun, inspiring. I especially love the video clips for each piece in the collection. see her design in a small collection.

so, I've been living in Portland for just over a month now, and have eaten at some fabulous restaurants. none have quite made it to where I thought it important to blog about. until last night.
we went to dinner at Kinara Thai Bistro, an excellent Thai fusion restaurant in downtown Portland. the background music and intimate, modern setting create a really nice vibe. with an amazing menu filled with Thai delights and one chef, who cooks the most incredible dishes, this place is a great find.

try: Fresh Spring Rolls and Pineapple Curry Prawns.

gray is the it color for shoes this season. just when I was actually starting to veer away from my standard gray/black/blue/brown attire, gray pops back in with hotter than hot shoe selections. suede, sparkles, leather, oooh la la!

there is something so wonderful about high heels on piano keys. but then, there's also something eye catching about every kate spade ad as well. I got this beauty this morning.

I really like this ring. it's petite. it's simple. it's unique.

I've always been a huge fan of Diane von Furstenberg and her fabulous dresses. I love that they seem to fit perfectly into each category of the modern woman's lifestyle, whether it be work or play, day or night. I adore these two dresses from her fall collection. fabulous, yet functional.

seeing that I've been a Florida girl my entire life, I'll be needing some extra layers this winter. I'm thinking sweaters, long sleeves, boots, and jackets. no way I'd be even close to thinking about this if I was still in Florida! and since I have my basic black coat already, I think I'll go with this green, collarless coat.

shopping is fun, but shopping because I pretty much have to is even better.

I've been totally in love with all of the sweater dresses from fall collections. so practical, so comfortable, but yet so stylish. and I just love pairing them with a hot pair of black tights. these are all by designer, Karoo Mark Eisen.

he dubs himself, "the world's laziest photographer". honestly, if laziness could get me shots like this and this or this, I'd attempt to be lazy more often. ever since I discovered Nick Burns, aka Soda O, on flickr, I tend to go back to view his photos when I need a pick me up. the softness. the superb quality. the color. and the way he photographs her. it's like watching a heartwarming movie, when after the characters fall in love and kiss at the end, you have that sense of elation for hours after. Nick's photos do that to me.

it's friday.
so, in my world, that doesn't really mean much, seeing I have to work at 9:30 tomorrow morning. the joy of retail: working on the weekends. but, it does mean that it's another day closer to dlb returning home, he's in Idaho again, and another day closer to seeing my dad! my dad, who lives in the Philippines, is coming to the states next week for my cousin's wedding in California. and I'm super excited, I haven't seen him since my college graduation, over three years ago.

wishing everyone a wonderful weekend! it'll be a quiet one around here.

I am no longer in the ranks of the unemployed. I've officially been given a job offer. my first day is Monday and I couldn't be more thrilled. I'm excited about actually starting my life here in Portland. I've felt as though I've been here, but I haven't felt yet like I lived here.
I still have Florida tags on my car.
I still have a Florida driver's license.

and... I didn't have a real job.

I'm pleased as punch for my new job. I like the people I'll be working with and I hope dearly that it's not another ISM disaster!

so, on another note, I've decided rather than trotting around town, shopping without "shopping", I'd take today to be productive. I've got things I need to be working on that I've been putting off for some time now. besides, it's a little overcast this morning. I couldn't help myself on those gorgeous sunny days we'd had this week. I needed to escape the apartment!

I'm off to be productive and creative and happy.

while looking through my previous blog archive, the blog I had before blogger, I came across this post. it's back when I really wrote what was on my mind. and I like it.

"I wish, I WISH, I could be somewhere that the leaves turn all colors of orange, red, and yellow. I've never lived anywhere that I got to really experience it, but fall has always been my favorite season. I love walking outside on a fall morning and breathing in the cool, fresh air. I love the feeling of the air getting cooler. it actually makes me want to go to the gym tomorrow morning....since I punked out this morning. or maybe even a brisk run on bayshore.

fall gives us a chance to renew. we play all summer, then fall comes around and we shed old ghosts and emotions. during the winter, we hibernate and work on all the things that we intend to change come the new year. as the leaves begin to grow, spring brings a fresh outlook on life with the sight of baby green leaves and new flowers.

not that I want to sound completely gay, but I think about things like this. especially when I can't get myself out of bed in the morning. so...maybe I'll see what I can do, especially with anticipation of the cold air. it wakes me up."

I ducked into this little shop yesterday afternoon to get out of the heat, and found the most delightful clothing. Seaplane, founded by house designers Kathryn Towers and Holly Stalder, has become one of the most progressive independent design collectives on the west coast. check out the beautiful unnatural history here.

everyone had a lovely Monday. mine has felt oddly more like Friday. but it was a good one.

I'm tired. my feet hurt. and I've been shoe shopping. I need a new pair of shoes. maybe a couple pairs of shoes, black, for work. I got a part-time job, to keep me busy, though it involves lots of standing on my feet and walking around on hardwood floors. so, I'll need some new shoes, comfortable, nothing too fancy, nothing too high heeled.
Piperlime, a fresh shoe shop for Gap Inc., is exactly that: fresh. I always thought Zappos was the best online shoe source, but Piperlime may have out done them. with hot styles and brands, Piperlime is an excellent source, whether you're looking for a hot pair of boots to go with that new demin knee length skirt, a sweet pair of ballet flats for those sweater knit dresses, or a new pair of peep toe pumps for nights out on the town.

oh yea, and I love even better that most of my favorite bands frequent Portland. I heart the music scene.

I love the photography of mandy lamb. taken with her polaroid camera and expired film, mandy achieves these amazingly soft, subtle tones. buy prints at her shop 1977.

since becoming a vegetarian, I've become in love with cookbooks and food blogs. not to say that I wasn't before, but I feel like they give me more inspiration with my cooking. after following a link from design*sponge today, I found this amazing food blog called Vegan Yum Yum. such great ideas. amazing photography. and total yum!

ever since I was a little girl, I've loved the colorful patterns of vintage pyrex. of course, when I was little, and it was my mom's pattern, I didn't consider it vintage, but I still loved it. my mom had 4 mixing bowls in this pattern, which she gave to me when I went to college. I wanted to learn to bake and needed mixing bowls. over the years, I've managed to sadly break the two smaller bowls and have always wanted to replace them. yesterday when I was baking oatmeal cookies, I decided to look it up. I found a group on flickr dedicated to pyrex love. and I decided I want some more pryex. different colors to add to my colorful kitchen. I like this one.

Domino has such a way of being inspiring. I love flipping through the gallery of photos. I especially love the colorful entires for Domino's home decorating contest. the styles are so unique. I especially love the studio/home office from the top picture. I've been dreaming of having my own office space, filled with organization, lots of bright light, and storage space, rather than sharing a table top with books and another computer! {le sigh... one day.}

I love the illustration of Justine Ashbee. I love the free-form lines, the hints of color, and the bold black and white contrast. I'd saw her work with gig poster designer, Andrio Abero at Flatstock, the rock poster show at Bumbershoot this weekend. her work is simply gorgeous.

dlb and I returned from Seattle yesterday, totally satisfied. Bumbershoot was, to say the least, amazing. and Seattle, well... of course Seattle was awesome.
we saw old favorites.
made some new favorites.
danced our hearts out.
ate sushi Haroo.
exchanged words with brewery owners.
shook hands with The Small Stakes.

and the highlight of my weekend:
meeting the violin playing, master whistler, Andrew Bird.
