since I've been talking about how busy I've been lately, here are a few things I've been working on:a save the date email for Melissa and her fiancé, Jose! Melissa contacted me for a save the date email to let her friends and family know that she and her fiancé will be eloping to beautiful Sedona, then inform them of a reception party at a later date.
Christine contacted me in search of some allergy icons. Christine creates play date cards and has a great site where you can purchase cards for your own children! she wanted the milk allergy icon to put on her own son's card.

I plan to update the shop soon with some more headers and some pre-designed recipe cards and note cards. aside from that I've been working on custom orders and developing the new site for Sunali. I'm also working on a new project that is really special and unique and I'm quite excited about it. it's just in the beginning stages, but I hope to have this complete in time for the peak of summer.
until then, I can create a wide range of customized designs for you including: unique illustrations, blog buttons, blog headers, customized calling cards, business cards, note cards, and more.

before our trip to Florida, dlb bought a pair of Birkenstocks. I've been a little jealous ever since, wanting a new pair of comfortable sandals for myself. the weather hasn't been just right yet, but I know it's coming, and I need sandals.
I've had, what one might call, a love affair/dorkathon relationship with Birkenstocks. in 7th grade I got my first pair. I loved the cork of off them. then I wore my second pair all the time up until high school when I heard that "Birks were dorky and no body wears them anymore". so I tossed my beloved shoes for something new because we all know how high school was: if you weren't cool, you were just plain dorky.
so now that dlb has his new pair of Birks, I've been intrigued again, remembering that soft suede and cushiony cork that I loved so much. I checked out the site, and you know, the Women's sandals really aren't that bad if you steer clear of the ones with the big straps. but I'm still not convinced. I'm going to try some on this weekend and report back.

so what's your opinion readers, Birk or no Birk?

if you've ever heard of Wiksten, I'm sure like me, you're very excited for the launch of the Wiksten summer collection. Jenny is a fantastic designer. I've been incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to own one of her new pieces and I can assure you, what she creates is well constructed, designed with the wearer in mind, and oh so comfortable. if you haven't read it already, check out her humble interview over at Heart Handmade.

I went to see Beirut last night at the Crystal Ballroom.  and it was fanfreakingtabulous.  I always knew that they would be great live but even I was blown away at how great they really were.  I danced and moved my body to the beat and sang along with the crowd to every single song. 
what amazes me most about this band is front man, Zach Congdon, who is a mere 22 years old and created all of this, the band, while writing songs and dreaming up plans in his bedroom.  he has such stage presence and his voice is spot on.  they came back for two encores and encouraged the crowd to sing and dance.
if you haven't had a chance to listen to Beirut yet, please do.  and if you have and you're lucky enough to see them in concert, it's sure to be a treat.  just remember to bring your dancing shoes.

I've been excitedly watching Melissa's newest collection develop for Shaybelle. it's breezy and light weight and the color combos are fantastic. I'm in love with that scarf and pale yellow dress. and I especially love her new little logo.

so, I didn't even watch American Idol this season.  not one minute of it.  but tonight when I opened up iTunes, the thing across the top blared American Idol top 2 so I decided to listen to a few of their songs.  I was immediately taken by David Cook.  just as Bo Bice swooned me with his rocker vibe and incredible renditions of Whipping Post and In a Dream a few years back, David got me with that raspy voice and his versions of Music of the Night {absolutely best musical EVER} and Billie Jean, only like my favorite song ever in the most amazing arrangement.

hi there! I'm back from vacation... tired. I had a fantastic time reminiscing with friends, laughing with family, and taking in all of the Florida sunshine that I could.
but now I'm home. and it feels good to be back. however, I may be away from my little home here on unruly things for a few days. I'm feeling a bit over whelmed with work and life in general. I promise to be back, hopefully for a rts on Friday.

it's pretty amazing to think, that in the fall of 2006, this blog was born. and twenty months later, I've reached 1000 posts. I've loved every single thing about blogging. I've loved meeting you, sharing my inspiration and wish list with you, telling you a little bit about my life, dlb, and those rats, and putting out my little two cents to the world.

Traci of bliss asked me for a custom header a few weeks ago, and as usual, I created three designs for her to choose from. and that girl, she was so in love with these two headers, she bought them both! Traci, a local to Portland, has a bliss-ful blog where she writes about her finds and inspirations. she's got a feature to help brighten up our Mondays called, "I Heart Monday" because, she really does!
Sarah of Serendipity wanted something simple and striking, yet girly and classic. Sarah also writes about what inspires her and a little bit about her daily life. Sarah and I worked hard together to come up with the perfect fit for her blog. I'm glad she went away happy!!
you know, one of my favorite things about showing you the headers I've designed is possibly introducing you to a new blogger! during my process of designing, I really get to know each person, if just a little bit through email chat back and forth, and since I feel like I already know them, and really like them, I bet you will too!

it's Tuesday! and you know what that means? it's time for the first of the new things from Unruly Things. I am pleased as punch to introduce you to, Milk + Eggs + Chocolate, the newest food and drink blog, by me! I really enjoy cooking and I really enjoy sharing things that I've cooked. for awhile now, I've been debating adding a new food feature into Unruly Things, but didn't want it to become a catch all blog and deter from the shopping/style focus that I like to write about. so, I decided, why not move all of my food talk to another blog?

so here you have it. Milk + Eggs + Chocolate. you'll find hearty soups, vegetarian delights, tasty seafood, cookies, cookies, cookies, and an occasional beer review. check it out. I'll be there on Tuesdays.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!! I sure did. despite the rainy weather that consumed Saturday, I spent the day browsing antiques in Sellwood and came home with some treasures. and yesterday was the most beautiful day in Portland with not a cloud in the sky and highs in the low 70s. it seemed like just about everyone was outside and smiling. it's really amazing how much the sunshine makes me happy. dlb and I planted some basil, tomatoes, and peppers outside our apartment, and I got my hands dirty.

I've got some exciting things planned for this week.
• 1000th post - not only did I reach 100 pictures on my 366 yesterday, but Friday I plan on reaching 1000 posts to unruly things. it's pretty amazing to think that I've written that much on this blog or that I have that much to say! I've got a special give away planned and I'll let you know more about this week.
• new features - I'm in the works of beginning two new features on unruly things. one will have your mouth watering and the other will bring visual inspiration.
• shop news - updates and sneak peaks
