seventy and sunny

hi!! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I had a jam packed, heat filled weekend of work and fun. and now that today is Monday, I can let you in on my little secret and very exciting news.
today, dlb and I are launching our {yes our... } new business, called Seventy and Sunny! we are so excited to be sharing this news with you. Seventy and Sunny is a creative design studio featuring web and print based designs. not only will we have completely customized options for any creation that you desire, but we will also be offering pre-designed items that you can customize to your own personal liking. within the next few weeks, our e-commerce site will be up and running, but for now our site links to our etsy page, which will remain holding the pre-designed headers and other pre-designed things. it also links to our blog where we will be posting shop updates and Seventy and Sunny news.
Sunali will still remain my namesake business and will include some exciting things in the next few months. but, I decided that it was time to move on to newer and bigger things. over the years, Sunali had evolved from a nickname for myself {SUN-ALI::ALY-SON} and the place holder for my college portfolio, into a little side business that recently started to take off. I've felt for awhile now that Sunali just really didn't fit where I wanted the business to be going.

so! with the biggest smile on my face and the most appropriate weather, I introduce you to Seventy and Sunny. hip hip hoorah!!!!

photographer spotlight :: stephanie congdon barnes

since photography has become quite a love of mine, I've decided to add a new feature to unruly things for a bit of weekly eye candy. for the very first installment of photographer spotlight, I bring you the work of a very lovely and talented lady. we all know her from her daily posts at 3191 and her adorable plush animals. so, what better way to start off a series than with an inspiring photographer and artist like Stephanie Congdon Barnes. I love her eye for beauty and I'm always left smiling after viewing her photos. so here she is!

:: ::

what first sparked your interest in photography:
A desire to stop time.
what was your first camera:
Well, I had a point and shoot film camera in high school, but my NIkon D50 was my first SLR.
favorite thing to photograph:
My everyday life with my family.
favorite artist/photographer:
So hard as I'm influenced by so many in different ways! What attracts me to a photograph is usually a sense of intimacy or simplicity.

most memorable advice you've been given:
You can have the life you want.
advice you'd give starting or aspiring photographers:
Well, I only consider myself an aspiring photographer, but I would say to develop and nurture your own point of view. Photograph what you know and love and that reverence will show in your photographs.
favorite color:
robin's egg blue
if you could eat only one thing:
Hmmn, something sweet/spicy/salty...spiced sugared almonds?
something you can't live without:
patience
on repeat from your headphones:
"A Bird Flies By" by Port O'Brien

what inspires you:
The natural world, domesticity and food, childhood, light, simplicity, nostalgia...{all photos from stephanie's flickr stream}

good morning!!

how are you? I'm fine, great actually. I had a simply fantastic weekend that I couldn't wait to tell you all about.
saturday, dlb and I took a trip up to the Gifford Pinchot National Forrest to hike a trail that I'd heard was quite amazing. Falls Creek Falls. maybe you've heard of it? if not, it's pretty great. the trail is quite easy, only a few tough spots that go constantly uphill, but the work is worth it because at the top you are greeted with an incredible waterfall that drops into a huge punch bowl. we packed a lunch and enjoyed a chilly, breathtaking view of the waterfall.
as we were walking along the trail, we noticed a couple of little birds bobbing around on some logs. we stopped to watch them when I felt a sting on my shoulder. of course I screamed, thinking I'd been stung by something and whisked what I pictured to be a giant bug off my shoulder. it was actually a tiny bird that had land on my shoulder, and I guess it was his little claws that "stung" me! it couldn't have been cooler.
we've already been making plans of going back to the area. there is so much to see and so many trails to explore. and besides, Stephanie informed me of a fantastic brewery near by. with a beer list like that, we're bound to go back!

shop update!

I just added 3 new pre-designed headers to my shop. these headers can be customized to your liking, including changing font styles, colors, and minimal illustration changes. I will be working over the weekend to finalize some custom orders and hopefully getting up some more pre-designed headers in my shop next week.
as always, I offer customized headers at affordable prices. these headers are completely customized to your specifications, including new, fresh illustrations and colors to match your preferences.
I also added a listing for customized calling cards as many of you have asked for these. currently the price for these is $30 for 25 cards. I will be adding some pre-designed styles of these in the future.

if you have any questions about customization or additional services, please email me.
and thanks! big news coming in the next month including some new projects, that photo shoot, and business updates.

tiny containers and pretty details

I love all of the details from the most recent real wedding post on Style Me Pretty. Rebecca of Duet Weddings designed and styled the reception and her attention to detail is fantastic. I especially love the use of mason jars and other tiny containers, like tiny terra cotta pots for place holders.

does my blog look good in this - june

the lovely and talented Helen of Tartlette is hosting this months "Does My Blog Look Good In This". DMBLGIT is a contest where food bloggers submit pictures of food that they have prepared and photographed. the photographs are reviewed by a panel of judges, who score them in three categories: edibility, aesthetics, and originality. that's where I come in! I've been selected to be one of the judges for the contest! so far the entries not only make my mouth water, but look pretty darn amazing. it's going to be a tough decision!
as a judge, I'll be looking at composition and styling as well as originality and unique display. so, if you're a food blogger or you know someone who is, jump on in! the deadline for submissions is June 23.
more information is over here.
you can view some of the entires here.

strapalicious buckleicious

as I mentioned yesterday, I ended up not going with the Birks. I'm not saying that I'll never buy a pair and I'm definitely not saying that I didn't think they were cute. maybe someday. for now, I'll admire them from afar.
I did buy a new pair of sandals though. some strapy, woven, buckleicious sandals. in black of course. I can't wait to wear them with breezy tunics, khaki shorts and cropped jeans.

rad or bad fad?

yesterday after work, I walked over to J. Crew before heading to a night class that I'm taking. I wanted to kill some time and try on this yellow skirt I've been eying. the store I went to didn't have the yellow skirt, but I think if I'd been a little bit more daring, I would've ended up with these in lemon twist, which is not nearly as neon in person as it appears online. but until I get the guts up to sport bright yellow pants, I'll stick to my famous black wardrobe and spend my cash on smaller yellow things, like that skirt.

so readers... you weighed in your thoughts on birks, so... what do you think of bright colored pants? rad or bad fad? I'm hanging in the middle but I have to say, I really really liked those bright yellow pants.

{by the way, I tried on birks last weekend and decided that since #1. I can't wear them to work and #2. they really don't go with a lot of my clothes - so #3. I didn't buy them.}

just dyed

I'm really loving the look of dip-dyed or tie dyed fabrics on dresses this season. when I was in high school, a group of friends and I tie dyed our senior shirts. we were rebelling against the stark white shirts the senior committee picked out and chose bright shades of blue, pink, and yellow. it was really fun twisting and wrapping rubber bands in creative patterns on our shirts and seeing what we created. seeing these dip and tie dyed dresses makes me want to go out and buy a white cotton dress, band it up, and throw it in some black or dark blue dye. hm.... maybe a fun summer project?

two beautiful projects that I took part in recently are Pia's My Heart Wanders and Martha of Uniform Studio's s t i l l. both unique and beautiful. these are some of my contributions.

monday + hello

hi!
I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. mine was filled with fun and exciting things. crepe eating, silly singing, trail walking, pine cone collecting, beach combing, fine dining, shoe shopping {which was unsuccessful}, and re-lax-ing. but now it's back to the daily grind. {which of course includes planning my next vacation or weekend hike!}

:: ::

I've got some things planned for this week, including a new feature and hopefully some shop updates. I've been working on some pre-designed blog headers and some flash side bar buttons and ad designs for your business or blog. I've also got some new note card designs to show you as well! I hope to update the shop by Friday. until then, if you haven't already or you're looking for a new blog header or anything else listed on my side bar, please stop by my shop or email me for more info. below are a few new headers I've designed.
the first one is for Casey of Vissertjes. not only does she have a fun blog, but she's also got some beautiful pictures.
the second is just an initial mock up for a friend of mine who is starting a finance blog, but I think it's cute so far.
the third is for Denise of Supa Soul Sista. she's got a sweet blog and she's from PDX!
so! happy monday and here's to a fantastic week.

6.13.2008

I'm really really:
tired.
glad it's Friday.

I wish that I:
could be with my Dad this father's day.

this weekend I will:
finally buy some sandals and maybe some new clothes. :)
bask in the sunshine.
bike ride and nature walk.
take pictures, pictures, pictures.
relax.
prepare some shop items and work on projects.

happy friday the 13th everyone! I hope your weekend is fantastic!
